This is my home station and I sorry to say that if you need to buy a ticket or get any assistance whatsoever from the ticket office then do it somewhere else, they're somewhat less than effective. They're very polite and everything but completely useless.
On 2 separate occasions I have needed to use their facilities and in both occasions they failed to satisfy my, very basic, needs. First was to purchase a season ticket, I was told I needed a photo card, not having the time to sort it there and then I made sure I had extra time the next morning. I arrived at the station to use the photo booth which wasn't turned on. When I enquired at the ticket office I was informed that they couldn't help me as it's not their machine and it works on a timer. When I asked why I wasn't told that the day before when I said I'd come back in the morning I was told, 'sorry sir, I'm in training'. I again had to buy a daily ticket and had my needs satisfied at the other end of my journey.
This morning I arrived at the station in plenty of time to buy a monthly season ticket for my trip (I spent over an hour on their website last night trying to buy it without success) I approached the ticket office with a due sense of impending failure, the customer in front of me was also purchasing a season ticket (over £500) but the card reader wasn't working, she had to use a different card. My hopes weren't high, especially considering that I now have approximately 2 minutes to catch my train. I asked whether purchasing my ticket in that timeframe was achievable and was told, 'you'll have to be patient with me sir, I'm in training'... No she wasn't, training requires supervision and she was alone, 3 ticket booths and only 1 unqualified member of staff .
Needless to say, I am on the layer train, with a daily ticket because not only couldn't she complete my transaction quickly enough, the card reader wouldn't accept my card either so she couldn't satisfy my needs at all.
There was no attempt at assistance, no thought to move to another born given that the 3 customers after me had exactly the same issue.
I would have made my complaint in person but there was no point in making my experience any more frustrating with the abandoned trainee and there were no other staff visible other than the platform guys.
Deep breath ,my day will get better !
